HOW THEY SCORED: Baylor 17, West Virginia 14

First quarter

BAYLOR TOUCHDOWN: R.J. Sneed 13-yard pass from Charlie Brewer (0:06), Baylor leads 7-0.

After both teams traded seven punts, Baylor scored first when Brewer found Sneed wide open in the left side of the end zone.

Baylor went 86 yards in eight plays on the drive and the scoring pass was confirmed by replay.

West Virginia safety Josh Norwood was flagged for targeting and ejected from the game earlier in the drive. It’s the second time Norwood has been ejected for targeting this season. He will miss the first half of next week’s game against Texas Tech.

Third quarter

WVU TOUCHDOWN: George Campbell 83-yard pass from Austin Kendall (6:42), game is tied 7-7.

On the first play of the drive, Kendall found Campbell on a deep post pattern. Campbell got a step on Baylor defensive back, Kalon Barnes, who nearly tipped the pass when he dove on the play.

Instead, Campbell hauled it in and raced into the end zone. It was West Virginia’s longest scoring pass since 2012, when Geno Smith was the Mountaineers’ quarterback.

Casey Legg, from Cross Lanes, subbed for the injured Evan Staley and came through on the extra-point attempt.

BAYLOR TOUCHDOWN: Denzel Mims 21-yard pass from Brewer (4:34), Baylor leads 14-7.

The Bears answered right back with a 7-play, 75-yard drive and Brewer found Mims across the middle for Brewer’s second touchdown pass of the night.

Mims got past Keith Washington on the play and found a hole in the middle of the secondary.

WVU TOUCHDOWN: Winston Wright 95-yard kickoff return (4:22), game is tied 14-14.

Wright, one of West Virginia’s prized freshmen receivers, went up the right side on the kickoff return and outraced the Bears coverage team to the end zone.

After a defensive struggle in the first half, this was the third score of the third quarter and all of them took just two minutes and 20 seconds.

Fourth quarter

BAYLOR FIELD GOAL: John Mayers 36-yard kick (10:19), Baylor leads 17-14.

The Bears drove 62 yards in a lengthy 13-play drive to take the lead.

The longest play of the drive was Brewer’s 12-yard run on third-and-18 to set up the field goal.
