Two arrested, charged for selling drugs

Two men were arrested after police found marijuana during a traffic stop to serve an arrest warrant on the vehicle’s passenger.

Leon Emeile Sandiford, 22, of Clinton, Maryland, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and one count conspiracy.

Sandiford is a WVU student who first enrolled in fall 2016, according to WVU spokesperson John Bolt.

Brenton Kobbah, 22, of Kanawha County, is charged with one count of possession with intent and conspiracy.

WVU Police searched Sandiford’s home on Tuesday as part of a drug investigation, Major Phil Scott said.

In the home, 1.4 pounds of marijuana, $1,234, two iPad minis, two iPhones, a laptop, grinder, glass smoking device, THC packets and THC syrup were seized, according to a criminal complaint.

Scott said Sandiford was not home at the time and the department obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday, while attempting to serve the arrest warrant at Sandiford’s apartment, he was spotted as the passenger in a Toyota Rav4, a complaint said.

As officers approached the car, driven by Kobbah, pulled off, the complaint said. Officers returned to their cars and conducted a traffic stop.

The vehicle was searched and a small black bag with $1,180 was found. Officers also found 18.6 grams of marijuana in a “Fronto Leaf” cigar bag, trace amounts of a “green leafy substance” in a bag under the driver’s seat. Sandiford said the bag under the seat was his, the complaint said.

Sandiford also had $415, 15.4 grams of marijuana and a scale on his person, the complaint said.

Both men were arrested and arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court. They are being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
