MORGANTOWN — Monongalia Arts Center celebrates the human form with the “2019 Bare Form Exhibition.” The exhibit will be on display in MAC’s Benedum and Davis galleries Friday-Nov. 27, with an opening reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday. A ribbon presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. on the night of the opening reception.
This open submission and non-juried exhibition, featuring non-erotic pieces from an amalgam of artists and styles, is intended to capture the human spirit by showing it in its most exposed and vulnerable state. Artists are from the region.
“The beauty and lines of the human form has inspired artists from the dawn of history yet remains an inextricable part of the human experience,” said MAC Executive Director Ro Brooks. “Our intimate familiarity with the human body bears the challenge to the artist: Transforming that which is known into an expression of emotion.”
Many local artists contribute work to this show. Retired professor of art and computer science, Gary Schubert, will be the featured artist of this year’s exhibition.
“This show presents one of my favorite genres, the nude figure,” Schubert said. “My hope is that the engaged viewer will respond to my work by finding in themselves an equivalent feeling to mine when I made these images.”
MAC is at 107 High St. Inquiries should be directed to info@monartscenter.com or 304-292-3325.
