YCF announces the Bonnie Bailey Dyslexia Advocacy Fund

Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia Inc. (YCF) announced the establishment of the Bonnie Bailey Dyslexia Advocacy Fund in conjunction with National Dyslexia Awareness month.
Distributions from this fund will provide support for charitable causes to educate, advocate and increase general awareness of dyslexia.
Todd and Rachel Wood established this fund in honor of their close friend, Bonnie Bailey, who was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
Both the Wood and Bailey families have children with dyslexia.
“Students with dyslexia are intelligent and creative people who are judged because of their struggles with basic reading skills,” said Rachel Wood. “When teachers are given the right resources, they can empower students with dyslexia to overcome their disability.
“Unfortunately, teachers are given a lot of misinformation and a lack of resources. We want to raise awareness and support students, parents and teachers in their efforts to provide the kind of instruction dyslexic students need to succeed.”
National Dyslexia Awareness month was officially recognized by the U.S. Congress in 2015, but has been observed every October since 2002. This annual awareness campaign, organized by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), aims to further the understanding of dyslexia. For more information about National Dyslexia Awareness Month, visit the IDA’s website at https://dyslexiaida.org/.
Community members are encouraged to add to the Bonnie Bailey Dyslexia Advocacy Fund through special event proceeds, donations in memory or in honor of loved ones, stock transfers, IRA distributions or by including YCF in estate plans.
YCF’s mission is to promote philanthropy and build endowment funds to benefit communities. Through financial resources, YCF extends many forms of assistance to qualified people, programs and projects.
Primarily serving north-central West Virginia, YCF’s underlying goal is to enhance the quality of life for those the organization serves.
