West Virginia falls to No. 1 Baylor in four sets

WACO, Texas — Junior Libero Alexa Hasting met the 1,000 career dig mark in Saturday’s road game at Baylor, but the Mountaineers couldn’t overcome the No. 1 Lady Bears falling 3-1.

West Virginia (10-11, 1-7 Big 12) took the court in Waco after the Lady Bears fell for the first time this season, but Baylor (17-1, 7-1) pulled away to take the match in set scores 25-19, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-18.

Hasting’s final dig of the match came as her 1,000th. The last Mountaineer to claim the accolade was Gianna Gotterba on Nov. 2, 2016, in Ames, Iowa against the Cyclones.

“While it wasn’t the outcome we wanted, it was a good learning experience for our team,” WVU coach Reed Sunahara said.

Outside hitter Katelyn Evans led the Mountaineers with 19 kills — another in a long-string of double digit games for the senior. Middle blocker Audrey Adams added 10 more kills as the Mountaineers ended the match held to a .164 hitting percentage. They had a total of 46 kills.

Setter Lacey Zerwas accounted for 40 of the teams 45 assists, and Briana Lynch had a team-high six blocks.
