BOWERSTON, Ohio — Clay-Battelle suffered its second-straight loss to an Ohio opponent Friday night, falling to Conotton Valley
28-22.
The Cee-Bees (4-4) led 15-7 going into halftime after two touchdowns — an early 1-yard rushing touchdown by Sean Hays and a 17-yard catch and run from Seth Casino to Cooper Watson with 16 seconds on the clock and subsequent 2-point conversion.
But after the half, Clay-Battelle’s seven minute scoring drive to go up 22-7 was met by a string of Rockets (4-5) touchdowns.
A score on a following drive was met with a lost Cee-Bees fumble that turned into a game-tying CVHS score to start the fourth quarter. As the Rockets defense continued to stymie the Cee-Bees, the Ohio squad scored again to go up 28-22.
A late-quarter drive by C-B put them deep in Rockets territory. Resting at the CVHS 23, Casino threw his first interception of the game to effectively end the battle.
“They have a run game and just kept pounding (ground),” CB coach Ryan Wilson said. “Some of their runs we missed tackles, but our kids battled all night long. We just couldn’t hang on to the lead (and) come up with a stop.
“We’re going to come back on Monday and regroup to go into this week and finish strong. We want to win the last two games to finish 6-4.”
Hays finished the night with 123 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries, while Carson Shriver had 16 carries and 48 yards. Seth Casino went 7 of 10 for 89 yards, one interception and one touchdown.
