PADEN CITY — After an emotional day in which the Clay-Battelle football team lost one of its classmates, the Cee-Bees battled to a 43-33 win over Paden City on Friday night.
“It was a very emotional night,” coach Ryan Wilson said. “We got our boys together and had a team meal at the school and what we asked out of them was to just go out there and play football. They have heavy hearts — for our seniors, this was their classmate. We asked them that whenever we hit the field to just play football. From the time they took the field to warm up to the final horn. Our community can be very proud of this football team.”
Wilson said the team had a moment of silence in the locker room for prayer to help everyone gather their thoughts. He was happy with how his seniors responded in the face of adversity.
“My seniors did a great job of leadership tonight,” Wilson said.
Running back Sean Hays had 175 yards and three touchdowns on the ground for the Cee-Bees (4-2), while Carson Shriver added 156 yards and three scores.
“Carson broke a couple biggies and Sean did too, but that goes back to our offensive line,” Wilson said. “They did a well job of blocking.”
Quarterback Seth Casino completed three passes for 50 yards, with Cadon Skavinsky catching the longest pass at 37 yards.
C-B will travel to Cameron next week.
