West Virginia looking ahead to 2021 quarterback recruit Christian Veilleux

By Keenan Cummings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia already has its quarterback in the current recruiting class, but is already working hard on securing one for the following year.

Tallahassee (Fla.) Chiles signal caller Garrett Greene has been committed to the Mountaineers since March for the 2020 cycle, but the program is full-speed ahead in its pursuit of a top 2021 option. That option is Potomac (Md.) Bullis School quarterback Christian Veilleux, who received an offer from the Big 12 program after the coaches saw him throw in the spring.

Veilleux also traveled to Morgantown to throw in front of the coaches last summer for a camp and stood out for his accuracy and ability to get the ball out of his hands quickly. He also remained on campus for a few days after to tour things and get a better understanding of what WVU had to offer.

It’s clear at this stage that the Canadian-born import is right at the top of the list for the Mountaineers.

The 6-foot-4, 181-pounder has no shortage of options already with Michigan, Tennessee and Penn State being just a few of the other schools that have jumped into the picture, but the Mountaineers are fighting to remain in the mix for his services moving forward.

The Rivals.com 4-star prospect returned to Morgantown over the weekend for the matchup with Texas and was greeted by a welcoming coaching staff and fan base.

“They were very happy to see me. They expressed their interest and how much they want me in the 2021 class. They believe I fit this offense perfectly,” he said.

Veilleux has developed a strong connection with head coach Neal Brown, as well as quarterback coach Sean Reagan, and that has kept the program on his short list at this stage.

“It was good seeing coach Brown and coach Reagan again,” he said. “The relationship with the coaches just keeps growing.”

Veilleux is hoping to return to WVU for a visit later in the football season and plans to head to Tennessee and Penn State for trips in the near future. He has no timeline for when he wants to make a decision at this stage, but the Mountaineers are hoping to remain heavily in the mix.

Getting him on campus for another visit is certainly a good start.
