Dr. William Lee Mossburg, 81, of Johns Creek, Ga., formerly of Fairmont, W.Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. Born Aug. 23, 1938 in Mt. Morris, Pa., William graduated from Morgantown High School in 1956 and went on to earn his undergraduate and medical degrees from West Virginia University. He also saw service in the United States Army.
William was a devoted husband and is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judith Ann (Humphreys). He will be greatly missed by their children, Stephanie Hewitt (Rick), Susan Garner, Melanie Jordan, Jeffrey Davis (Susan), Kelly Cook (David), William Mossburg Jr., Andrea Hoffman and Amber Mossburg (Adam).
He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Madonna, Michelle, Anthony, Chris, Codie, Dustin, Sam, Shelby, Henry, Logan, Olivia, Wyatt, Laura Mae, Brandy, Ryan and Nathan. William also was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Donald and John Mossburg, his sister, Jackie Chambers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Davis; his parents, Grace Cummins and John Mossburg; and his brother, James Mossburg.
William was a retired vascular and thoracic surgeon. His passion in life was practicing medicine. He practiced medicine in Fairmont, Elizabeth City, N.C., and Lewisburg, W.Va. “Doc” had a bedside manner matched by no other and took great pride in taking time and concern for every patient he treated. No matter how many people were waiting to be seen, he would not rush through an appointment and treated all his patients with dignity and respect.
William was an avid Mountaineers fan, a news junkie, a gadget guy and loved his trips to Walmart in his later years.
William chose cremation as his final disposition. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at Mount Hebron Church in Jane Lew at 11 a.m. on Nov. 2.
