WEIRTON, W.Va. — The Morgantown golf team used a second-place finish at the Class AAA Region I golf tournament to advance to states as a team Monday at Williams Country Club.
Preston’s Luke Livengood won a tie-breaker to advance to the state tournament as an individual after shooting an 81.
The top two teams in each region advance to states, as well as the top two individual scorers from the rest of the teams. The worst score for each team is thrown out.
MHS was led by Jack Wiedebusch, who shot an 83. Antonio Rollo (88), Carter Patrick (89) and Owen Newbold (90) were the rest of the scorers to finish with a 260.
University finished third overall with a 265 — Jack Giobbia (81), Brayden Wilson (91), Levi Watson (93) and Sam Zeni (93).
Preston finished at 277 — Livengood (81), Jacob Loughry (98), Daniel Allen (98) and Chayce Andrew (112).
Wheeling Park won with a score of 243. Brooke’s Ryan Bilby was the medalist, shooting a 71.
The state tournament will be Oct. 8-9 at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.
