Clay-Battelle shutout in second half at Tygarts Valley downs Cee-Bees 28-7

MILL CREEK, W.Va. — After leading 7-0 heading into the locker room at halftime, the Clay-Battelle football team did not have the second half it hoped it would Friday night at Tygarts Valley.

The Bulldogs scored 28 unanswered points in the final two quarters, while the Cee-Bee offense was held to just 44 yards as they fell 28-7. For the game, Clay-Battelle (2-2) was held to 192 yards of total offense — 171 of that was gained by running back Sean Hays on the ground.

Hays was again the workhorse, grinding out 36 carries to earn those 171 yards, but the rest of C-B’s offense was completely shut down. Tygarts Valley (4-0) remains unbeaten.

“We were doing what we wanted to do in the first half, only ran six plays in the whole second quarter,” C-B head coach Ryan Wilson said. ” But they got the ball first in the second half and took it down and on us. We couldn’t get any drives going and they kept getting the ball back and scoring again.”

Wilson said his defense was down 4-5 starters by the end of the game, and injuries began to take a toll.

“Our kids battled hard and did a fantastic job, but we just didn’t have a whole lot of experience out there,” he said. “Not taking anything away from Tygarts Valley, they’re a good ball club, but we got about all we could ask from our kids. We just have to heal up and get ready for next week.”

The Cee-Bees return home next week to face Calhoun County in Blacksville.
