MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia men’s soccer team travels to Columbus, Ohio, for a match against Ohio State at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. Kickoff at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
“We have another tough road opponent in Ohio State, which is a well-coached team,” WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “They’ve had an incredible turnaround from a year ago. (Ohio State coach) Brian (Maisonneuve) is an old friend and a fantastic coach. He has the pedigree of winning National Championships from his time at Indiana. My expectation is that this team is starting to take the form of one that Brian has had his fingers on. I’m certain they aren’t going to be very far away from competing for titles again at Ohio State.”
Tuesday’s match marks the 21st meeting between the Mountaineers and Buckeyes, but the first since 2009. The last matchup between the two squads ended in a 0-0 draw.
WVU (4-2-1) is coming off a 2-0 loss to Dayton. The setback snapped the team’s four-match unbeaten streak.
Ohio State (5-2, 0-1 Big Ten) is led by second-year coach Brian Maisonneuve, who holds a record of 6-17-1 with the Buckeyes. OSU enters the match after falling to Penn State in its conference opener over the weekend.
