A man police say ran away after he was involved in a vehicle collision that sent two juvenile boys to the hospital has been charged by the West Virginia State Police.
David Lee McPherson II, 42, of Morgantown, is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a vehicle accident causing injury and one count of leaving the scene of a vehicle accident causing damage.
While on his way to the collision on Bakers Ride Road near Van Voorhis Road, Trooper First Class J. Willis was told the driver and passenger of one of the two vehicles involved ran away on foot, according to a criminal complaint.
The crash was reported at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday and Willis arrived at 6:24 p.m., according to the complaint.
Once he arrived, Willis spoke with Ryan McCardle who was driving a gray 2019 Chevrolet Colorado and two boys who were passengers in the truck. Both boys were taken to Mon General Hospital for medical treatment, the complaint said.
The WVSP did not provide additional details regarding the nature of their injuries in time for this report.
Witnesses to the collision said the driver and passenger from the other vehicle involved, a silver 1992 Toyota Tercel, ran away before Willis arrived, the complaint said. Neighbors in the area said they saw a white male headed towards West Run Road.
About 7 p.m. Willis left Bakers Ridge Road, onto St. Clair Hill Road then onto West Run Road to try and find the driver or passenger that ran way. He spotted a white male — McPherson — walking on West Run Road near St. Clair Hill Road and spoke with him about the wreck, the complaint said.
Willis took two picture of McPherson and about 10 p.m., showed the photos to two of the victims who identified McPherson as the driver of the Toyota Tercel, according to the complaint.
McPherson was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Wednesday. He is being held in the North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
