WVU men’s soccer team to host No. 15 Coastal Carolina

MORGANTOWN, W,Va. — The West Virginia men’s soccer team concludes its three-match homestand by hosting No. 15 Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. Friday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff.

“This is a great opportunity and another great opponent,” WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “(Coastal Carolina coach) Shaun (Docking) does a great job year-in and year-out with his teams, and this team may be his best yet. They’ve had a full week to prepare, while we had the mid-week game and less time to recover. However, that doesn’t matter — we need to recover and find a way to perform regardless of the circumstances. We’ve got our work cut out for us with one of the best teams in America coming to Morgantown.”

The Mountaineers (2-1-1) are coming off a recent 0-0 draw to No. 12 Charlotte.

Friday marks the first time WVU has played back-to-back ranked opponents since 2016, when the Mountaineers fell to No. 7 Seattle before defeating No. 9 Georgetown.

Coastal Carolina is led by 22nd-year coach Shaun Docking, who holds a record of 278-126-35 with the Chanticleers. Docking has won eight Coach of the Year honors, including being named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2017.
