MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The No. 23-ranked WVU women’s soccer team will host Stony Brook at 7 p.m. Thursday, before getting ready for a road showdown against No. 15 Georgetown on Sunday.
“This week has been about us and getting this inexperienced team better,” WVU head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “We need to eliminate mental mistakes and take care of the little things.”
Stony Brook head coach Tobias Bischof, “is definitely a coach that knows how to get results. He is going to have his team prepared to come out and do everything they can to disrupt us.”
It will be the first-ever match between the two schools.
West Virginia (2-2-1) enters the match coming off a 1-1 double-overtime draw tie with No. 8 Penn State. Stony Brook enters the match at 4-2 on the season.
Freshman defender Julianne Vallerand leads the Mountaineers with three goals, after registering her first career multi-goal game in WVU’s 3-0 win over High Point on Aug. 30.
Senior goalkeeper Rylee Foster is tied for third in the Big 12 in shutouts (2) and saves (14). She registered a season-high six saves against Penn State.
Stony Brook is led by junior forward Alyssa Francese, who has three goals, all of them game-winners.
Junior goalkeeper Sofia Manner is the projected starter in goal for Stony Brook. She has a 4-2 record and has registered 27 saves and one shutout this season.
