Charles Leroy “Charlie” Matheny, 63, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019.
Charlie was born in Morgantown on Jan. 21, 1956, a son of the late John and Colleen Lowther Matheny.
Charlie worked as a coal miner for Humphrey Mines until his retirement. In his free time, Charlie was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Meadow Ponds and Mountaineer Golf Course. He also attended Grace Bible Chapel. Charlie was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, who will be greatly missed.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Tammy Fowler Matheny; daughters, Adrian Matheny and Amanda Matheny; sons, John Matheny, Charlie Matheny and Josh Matheny; stepdaughters, April Dempsey and Ashley Scott; stepson, Michael Dempsey; sisters, Judy Dalton and husband, Jim, and Joyce VanCamp and husband, Kirk; one granddaughter; and three stepgranddaughters.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, and from 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, until the 11 a.m. service with Pastors Sean Wightman and Joe Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
