MORGANTOWN — Trigger time gave way to dinner time on Monday as Defense in Depth hosted a Labor Day Food Truck Festival at its Sabraton Plaza location.
Early morning rain gave way to a steamy afternoon as patrons lined up for the eight or so vendors offering goodies ranging from snow cones to pho.
“Today is all about the community. We believe there should be more activities here in Sabraton for our local population,” Event Coordinator Alex Shay said, explaining that a similar event sold out in about two hours last year, prompting him to reach out to twice as many vendors this time around.
Shay, who serves as membership director for Defense in Depth, the state’s largest indoor shooting range, said the business was giving away range time and letting visitors check out the simulator as way of saying “Thanks for coming out.”
Ryan and Carly Lemley, of Ridge Roasters Coffee, decided to show their appreciation in another way — by donating a portion of Monday’s sales to the Todd May Foundation.
Sgt. May was killed in the line of duty by a fleeing drunk driver on Feb. 18, 2012.
“With law enforcement, once you’re a part of it, it never leaves you,” former WVU Police officer Ryan Lemley said. “We wanted to be able to give back to Todd and his family and just do what we can as a part of the community.”
