MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Tali Sizemore netted an unassisted goal with less than 10 minutes left on the board to put the Hawks (3-1) over the Bulldogs (2-1) Saturday afternoon.
With both offenses clicking, each goal keeper would have clutch saves to hold off the assault.
Martinsburg’s Brooke Metzger saved a 20-yard shot by Tristen Bright, and University’s Lizzy Edwards responded with a diving save on a close-range shot. Her save put her in a position to guard a Bulldogs’ corner, and she came through one again providing big coverage to force the head off the crossbar.
The second-half Hawks’ offensive tirade wore down Metzger, opening up Sizemore to move into the penalty box from the 30-yard line and strike the far corner.
Edwards maintained her presence at the net and had eight saves through 80 minutes, earning her second shutout of the year.
University returns to action on Tuesday, hosting the Wheeling Park Patriots at 6 p.m.
