George Hartman, 93, of Kingwood, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at home with his family by his side.
George was self-employed for the majority of his working years. He first worked alongside his father in the construction and mining industries. Later in life, he went on to own an Esso service station and a taxi service.
George lived life like every good American should, as a hard worker and a servant to the Lord, his country and his community. Above all, he was a good husband, father and grandfather. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a 1943 graduate of Tunnelton High School, a member of Tunnelton United Methodist Church, a life member of Knights of Pythias and a Charter member of the Kingwood Lions Club. While he enjoyed traveling the world, he always felt like there was nowhere more beautiful than home. He also enjoyed supporting the local youth, those in need, and he loved his buckwheat cakes.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Eileen Legg Hartman; two daughters, Linda (Randy) Huggins, of Kingwood, Patty (Leslie) Dorris, of Missouri; two sons, George Hartman Jr., of Ohio, John Hartman of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Cassie Asbury, of Ona, Jarrod Huggins, of Terra Alta, Kayla Jean Huggins, of Kingwood; five great-grandchildren, Max, Ace and Kalista Huggins, Jake and Bo Asbury; and a dear cousin, Carlotta Maier Newinski and several nieces and nephews; three stepchildren, Raymond (Margie) Legg, Robin (Jay) Huffman, of Tennessee, Janice (Jeff) Weaver, of Texas; nine stepgrandchildren, Jenna Rejman, Angie Brown, Josh Legg, of Tennessee, Lindsey Beasley, Jason Weaver, Jeremy Weaver, of Texas, Alex Kramer, of Pennsylvania, Leslie Kramer Belloso and Sean Miller, of California; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Haley, Carter, Alora and Gabe Rejman, Asher and Gunner Miller, Collin, Makayla and Tatum Brown, Khloe and Collins Beasley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bessie (Maier) Hartman; siblings, Howard Hartman, Mary Lou Farrell and Ruth Jean Rouzee; his former wife and mother of his children, Helen Jean Bolyard Hartman; former wife, Anna Jean Hardman Hartman; and stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Kramer.
Friends will be received at Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 S. Price St., from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, until the 11 a.m. funeral with Pastor Anthony Favro officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.
