George “Lefty” Sanders, of Morgantown, born Aug. 15, 1928, Preston County, passed away peacefully July 29, 2019, in Columbus, Ohio.
Lefty was discharged from Army Air Corp in 1948 with rank of sergeant. He had many vocations: Truck driver, operating engineer, small business owner and eventually retiring from GM Lordstown in 1984. Returning to Morgantown, he continued with many endeavors: Credit union board member, small excavating/paving company and bulk mulch. Always something to keep busy because he loved his “machines.”
He was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Effie (Rodeheaver) Sanders; wife, Rosie (Soccorsi) Sanders; brothers, Howard and Harold; and sister, Mary Smith.
He is survived by sons, Dan (Rose), David (Lori) and Kevin (Jules); stepdaughter, Stephanie (Mark) Randalls; nephew, John P. Smith who he helped care for after Mary’s death; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Masontown Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30. A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately following at the Nazarene Church.
