Business filing becomes digital

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s One Stop Business Portal will soon be getting a little bigger. On Friday, the state Division of Labor said the online portal — dubbed the Business Startup Wizard — will be updated so business owners can register with the state to pay fees and file annual reports.

The portal, first announced in February, will also be able to accept new contractor license applications as well as other license renewals.

“Our division has accepted renewal applications and electronic payments via our website for several years, and the opportunity to add this process to the One Stop Business Portal was not a hard decision,” said Mitch Woodrum, state labor commissioner, in a press release. “We will continue to work with the secretary of state’s web portal designers to expedite the addition of initial applications.”

By moving some of these services online, Woodrum said, the amount of time it takes to process necessary paperwork will be decreased by several days. Also, payments will go directly through the West Virginia treasurer’s online service at no added cost to users.

Besides now being able to accept contractor applications online, the site will also accept renewals and application fees for crane operator certification, plumber certification, HVAC technician certification, elevator safety, boiler invoices, weights and measures labs, bedding and upholstery certifications and permits, amusement rides and attractions permits, zip line and canopy tours permits.

“It only makes sense that agencies should work together to cut out unnecessary steps in obtaining and maintaining any type of required license or certification to work or do business in West Virginia,” Woodrum said.

In addition to the state’s labor department, the West Virginia Tax Department and Workforce West Virginia will be added to the portal. For more information on this service visit https://business4.wv.gov.
