Man accused of attacking bicyclist with knife on Star City bridge

A Morgantown man is accused of attacking someone with a knife, leaving the victim with several cuts on his arm.

KC Ray Kurbursky, 23, is charged with malicious assault by the Star City Police Department.

During his arrest, Kurbursky is alleged to have slammed his head repeatedly against a police cruiser. He’s also accused of attacking hospital staff after his arrest.

He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Thursday and is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.

According to a criminal complaint:

Kurbursky was found on the Star City bridge and matched the description of the man reported to be chasing another man on a bicycle.

Officer J. Hedrick approached Kurbursky, who appeared to be intoxicated, with slurred, excited and repetitive speech. Kurbursky refused to identify himself and was detained and identified.

Once detained, Kurbursky began slamming his head into the side of Hedrick’s cruiser. He was told not to, but told Hedrick he could not prove he was slamming his own head into the cruiser and denied doing it even as he continued to do so.

Both Hedrick and Kurbursky fell down during the struggle and Kurbursky was knocked out. EMS treated his injuries.

A search of Kurbursky turned up a folding knife and exacter razer with several replacement razors in different places on his person.

The victim told police he was riding his bike on the bridge when Kurbursky attacked him with a knife, cut him and tried to stab him. He said Kurbursky was unprovoked and had several cuts on his left forearm from defending himself against the knife attack.

While at the hospital, Kurbursky hit several medical providers who were trying to evaluate him.
