Paul Stephens Jr.

Paul Stephens Jr., 89, of Newburg, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at his residence with family by his side.

He was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Huntington, Ind., son of the late Paul Sr. and Opal Kunce Stephens.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War and was stationed in Germany and Korea. He retired in 1969 with over 20 years of service to his country. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in Huntington, Ind. Paul was a member of the Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church. He retired from Sterling Faucet with over 21 years of service and Summers Auto Parts. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and being a handyman.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Marie Mitter Stephens, whom he married Aug. 1, 1953; two children, Debora “Debbie” Kay Hibbs and David, of Newburg, Richard Alan Stephens and Peggy, of Jasper, Ala.; five grandchildren, Meegan L. Cordero, of Newburg, Robert “Robbie” S. Hibbs and Lana, of R.I., Tiffaney D. Hassinger and Bryan, of Curry, Ala., Matthew R. Hibbs and Mary, of Newburg, Donahue P. Stephens and Jessica, of Parrish, Ala.; fourteen great-grandchildren, Gabi, Isabella, Gigi, Bella, Lilah Rae, Ezra, Garrett, Maddox, Colton, Katelyn, Candance, Kayla, J.J. and Cullen; one sister, Sue Boggs, of Huntington, Ind.; one brother, Roger Lee Stephens, of Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Stephens, Don Stephens and Gene Stephens.

Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, from noon – 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, and from 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, until time of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rotha Hall.

Interment will follow at the Shay’s Chapel Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Col. Rowan Post 2345, Preston County Chapter 977, Vietnam Veterans of America and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
