The county fair is an American summer tradition that conjures up images of rides, food, games and music across generations.
Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the Monongalia County Fair parade will march down High Street to celebrate the start of the fair week.
Parking will not be allowed on High, North High and Prospect streets beginning at 6 p.m., according to the Morgantown Police Department. Traffic will not be allowed downtown during the parade. Traffic from Willey Street will be detoured to Prospect Street then University Avenue. Officers will be directing traffic.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Monongalia County Fair will open at Mylan Park. The fair will open at 5 p.m. through Friday and at noon on Saturday.
Admission is $10 for anyone over 1. The “all-inclusive entry fee” provides a ticket that is then traded for a hand stamp. The stamp offers access to rides, the bounce house, shows, concerts and all other events, according to the fair’s website.
The only activity not included in the fee, according to the website, is a pit pass to Saturday’s demolition derby.
Rides, provided by Gambill Amusements, open at 6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Rides will open at 1 p.m. Saturday.
On Friday, the fair will feature live music from 80s Enough and Rick K. and the Allnighters. Unique Friday attractions include a truck and jeep rock crawl competition at 6 p.m. and a swine showmanship show at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s concert will be provided by Ryan Cain and the Ables.
A variety of food vendors, including Old Goat Kettle Korn, Fawcett Funnel Cakes, Gil’s Pit Beef, Saute by Renee, and Dippin Dots will be at the fairgrounds each day.
The fair closes at 10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
