Sober Living Rally for Recovery hosts fundraiser

The first ever Morgantown Rally for Recovery will raise money to support West Virginia Sober Living.
“It’s so easy to see all the drug use and people struggling with it,” the rally’s co-chair Angela Kudurogianis said. “A lot of times we don’t appreciate all the people recovering right now.”
The rally will be from 4-9 p.m. Saturday in the Sabraton Plaza behind Defense in Depth.
She said Morgantown’s recovery community has grown “tremendously” over the past several years and West Virginia Sober Living recently opened its third sober living house — which accepted its first residents on Thursday.
The family-friendly fundraiser will have several food trucks, activities for kids, including face-painting and music, Kudurogianis said.
Raffle drawings will be held with prizes to include furniture, gift cards for Massage Envy, gift cards to restaurants, including Stefano’s and Tailpipes and tools from Lowe’s. Tickets will be one for $1, a dozen for $10 or 30 for $20.
Sober living home graduates will share their stories while the raffle is being held.
There will also be a mile-long walk starting and ending at Sabraton Plaza. The walk will symbolize walking down the path of recovery together, Kudurogianis said.
“Recovery obviously happens better whenever you have support and it means a lot to people to have support from people in recovery as well as from people not in recovery,” Kudurogianis said.
Kudurogianis said the fundraiser was initially aiming to raise $10,000. However, that goal has already been met thanks to “wonderful” sponsors and $15,000 is the new target.
According to its website, the rally is still in need of volunteers to help with set up, tear down, registration, concession sales and more. People interested in volunteering can contact Kudurogianis at 304-619-2644 or Morgan Henson at 304-216-3545.
Tickets are available at tinyurl.com/rallyforrecovery. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for residents of a West Virginia Sober Living house and kids under 12 get in free. Tickets can be purchased in advance, or the day of the fundraiser with cash or card.
