There is a plethora of ways to experience nature at the West Virginia Botanic Garden — from workshops to yoga to camps. And through the end of the month, those walking along the Reservoir Loop will notice one more.
A portion of the trail — between the Event Lawn and the Rhododendron Garden — is temporarily home to several photos, which are part of an exhibit WVBG is hosting in collaboration with Arts Monongahela.
In June, organizers asked the community to submit photos in five garden-centric categories — people, landscapes, plants, wildlife and miscellaneous.
Finalists’ photos dot the loop, along with QR codes, so that those who see them may use their smart devices to vote for their favorites. They have until Aug. 31 to do so.
Thanks to sponsorship from Black Bear Burritos, the grand prize winner will be awarded dinner for two at the area restaurant and have his or her photo displayed in the eatery’s downtown location.
Cheryl Carnegie, administrative assistant at the garden on Tyrone Road, said roughly 100 people submitted photographs.
“We’ve been trying to get more art-based projects in the garden, as well as community involvement,” she said. “This is great, because it achieves both of those goals.”
