MORGANTOWN — Police say a South Carolina man fired a gun inside a Pennsylvania Avenue home on Tuesday.
Sheldon Maurise Jackson, 35, of West Columbia, is charged with wanton endangerment by the Morgantown Police Department.
Officers from the MPD responded to a shots fired call at 420 Pennsylvania Ave. about 9:45 a.m., the department said.
When the officers got there, several people running away from the area were detained, identified and interviewed. Officers also spoke to witnesses and residents in the area.
Detectives found evidence a handgun was shot inside the home and recovered evidence from the scene, according to Chief Ed Preston. Two handguns, ammo and what police believe is methamphetamine and cocaine were also recovered at the scene.
According to a criminal complaint, Jackson approached a group of people sitting on the porch of 420 Pennsylvania Ave. and ordered them to go inside.
One woman went upstairs to grab her backpack and leave. Before she could, she ran into Jackson at the tops of the stairs where he pointed a gun at her. She asked Jackson not to point the gun at her, so he turned and shot a hole in the wall, the complaint said.
Jackson was identified and found on Wagner Road, which runs parallel with South High Street. He was arrested without incident and taken to the police department for booking.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed later. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 304-284-7454.
Jackson was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court. Bond was set at $100,000 and has not been posted. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail.
