Preston woman who threatened police ordered to seek alcohol, mental health treatment

KINGWOOD – A Tunnelton woman received probation Friday for making threats against police and ordered to seek treatment for mental health and alcohol abuse.

Pamela Renee Rhodes was sentenced to one to three years in prison on a charge of making terroristic threats. She was charged after threatening to blow up the Kingwood Detachment of State Police and threatening magistrate court personnel.

Preston Circuit Judge Judge Steve Shaffer suspended the sentence and placed Rhodes on three years probation. He also ordered Rhodes to seek both mental health and alcohol abuse treatment.

“I haven’t had alcohol in 18 years,” Rhodes said, interrupting Shaffer. “Why do I have to have alcohol abuse treatment?”

Shaffer explained the treatment was part of the plea agreement and had to be adhered to. Rhodes’ attorney, Hilary Bright, suggested her client receive treatment at Valley Mental Health.

Preston Prosecuting Attorney Mel Snyder said he had no objection if Rhodes could get the treatment she needs at Valley. “We’ve had some problems in the past,” he said. “She definitely needs mental health [treatment].”

Rhodes again commented about not needing alcohol abuse treatment. “If you don’t keep the plea agreement you will go to prison,” Shaffer said.

“I might be dumb but I am not stupid,” Rhodes said.

Shaffer ordered Rhodes to attend the Community Corrections Program for alcohol abuse.
