Irvin S. Snyder, 88, of Morgantown, died July 16, 2019. He was born in Nanticoke, Pa., on May 29, 1931, the son of the late Irvin and Wanda Snyder. He lived in Kansas City, Kan., then Iowa City, Iowa, before moving to Morgantown, where he resided for 46 years.
Irvin was a graduate of Wilkes College and went on to further his education at the University of Kansas where he received his Ph.D. He published numerous papers and contributed to several textbooks in the field of microbiology and loved teaching and mentoring students. He retired as chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at WVU Health Sciences. He enjoyed his work, but one of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandsons.
In addition to his wife, Marlene Ann (Smetana) Snyder, he is survived by his children, Mary (Tom) Dyer, Carole Hlavaty, and Irvin John Snyder; grandchildren, Alex Guy, Nathan Guy, Christian (Taryn) Guy and Daniel Hlavaty.
According to the family’s wishes, Hastings Funeral Home will be providing cremation services.
