Richard Lee Holley I, 86, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born June 1, 1933, the son of the late William Holley and late Martha McBrayer.
He attended Morgantown High School and graduated with the class of 1951.
He was the owner/operator of Holley’s Retreading Service and later became a proud West Virginia coal miner at the Humphrey Mine and member of the UMWA, retiring after 23 years.
He was a talented woodworker, an avid gardener and a jack of all trades. He was a friend to many and enjoyed helping others. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Donna Y. Holley; children, Debra Gump (James), of Morgantown, Sandra Lambert, of Scottdale, Pa., and Carrie Dix (Stacy), of White, Pa.; his daughter-in-law, Donna Quairiere (Keith), of Morgantown; grandchildren, JD Gump (Cara), Melissa Dower, both of Morgantown, Shaun Holley, of Scottdale, Pa., Scott Dix (Christina), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lauren Dix, of White, Pa., Chelsey Holley, of Westover; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Holley (Dorothy), of Morgantown; cousins, David Deaner (Rena) and Bill Deaner (Renee), both of Shelby, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close friends, Ralph and Stephanie Hale, Dorothea Pixler, Delbert, Donna and Daylene Davis, Helen and Bobby Konchesky, and Chuck and Heidi Joseph.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard L. Holley II; grandson, Joseph B. Dix; and brothers William and Donald Holley.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, and from noon Friday, July 19, until the 1 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Shawn Frasher officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
