James L. Miller, 96, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2019, at The Madison Center in Morgantown.
He was born on April 27, 1923, in Morgantown, the son of the late Mary McGuffie Miller and the late Claude Eakin Miller.
Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the rank of master sergeant and was active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 548 in Morgantown.
In addition to vegetable gardening for his family, he spent much time dedicated to service to the Masonic Lodge. He was a 50-year Mason, a past master of the union lodge 4 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in Morgantown.
He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and a Suma Cum Laude graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in accounting. He worked for the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Supply Corp. for more than 30 years.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Debra Miller Eakins Friedman and son-in-law, Joel Friedman, of Broad Run, Va.; sister, Betty Miller, of Morgantown; grandchildren, Lauren Eakins Seiler and grandson-in-law, Nick Seiler, James Eakins and Katharine Eakins; and great-grandson, Henry Seiler; as well as nieces and nephews, Jan Whitaker, Hal Whitaker, Valerie Miller Quigley, Donald Miller Jr. and Stacy Miller. He was a dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Miller; his wife, Margaret A. Miller; his sister, Jeanette Whitaker; and brother, Donald Miller.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, until the 11 a.m. memorial service with the Rev. Neil Leftwich officiating. Inurnment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with full military and masonic honors.
