Thanks to commission
for help with hydrants
Good news for some Halleck Road residents. Fire hydrants will be installed on portions of Halleck Road. The Little Creek Public Service District has been providing water to many residents along Halleck Road for years.

When the line was installed the main objective was to provide water to residents that had little or no water for their homes. The project at the time was a huge success.

Since the original line was installed, several homes have been built in the area and the need for water increased greatly. It was determined the original system needed improvements and upgrading to support the growth of the community.

Recently a new water storage tank was installed and about one mile of the original line was replaced with a new six-inch line. This allowed for that portion of the line to support fire hydrants.
There have never been fire hydrants on Halleck Road. At a water board meeting last summer Monongalia County Commissioner Sean Sikora was attending he shared with the group that the County Commission would be willing to assist with the installation of fire hydrants.

The Triune Halleck VFD then arranged to meet with the Little Creek PSD to discuss hydrants and where they might be placed. Three areas were determined to be good locations for hydrants. Consideration was given to all weather access, location of water line and obtaining the necessary rights-of-ways for the hydrants.

After this was accomplished, Commissioner Edward Hawkins instructed us on how to get on the agenda at the commission’s work session and present our project. When we presented our request for hydrants, all three commissioners were very receptive and supported the project.

At the next regular commission meeting the project was discussed and approved. The hydrants were purchased and are scheduled to be installed.

The Little Creek Water District is in the process of getting approval for another line extension and upgrade. One hydrant has been included in that project.

On behalf of the Triune Halleck VFD and the citizens in the area, I would like to thank commissioners Tom Bloom, Hawkins and Sikora for their support of this project.

Census question puts
everyone’s rights at risk
The Trump administration’s proposed Census query: “Are you a U.S. citizen?” should not be allowed.

That is an attempt to undermine our constitutional Bill of Rights protection from unreasonable search and seizure. That in turn will allow the Trump dictatorial minded administration to do anything they want without obtaining a warrant specific to any purpose. President Trump asserts his own Oval Office immunity yet seeks to have any lawful protection/immunity citizens have destroyed.

In the past Trump has attempted to deny immigrants’ any rights and have them deported using his executive privilege as he desires. (Look out media persons.) Another Tayyip Erdogan (Turkey’s autocratic leader)?

The Trump administration is making immigration’s path of naturalization to citizenship illegal for Dreamers and others while requiring the citizenship question leaves no chance for anyone to be legally a naturalized citizen when it is based only on Trump’s white supremacist, religiously biased desires.

Don’t put it past Trump to threaten your American citizenship if you’re not registered to vote Republican should the citizenship question absolve our other rights the Constitution guarantees.

This is not Russia but Trump and his GOP supporters are intent on their authoritarian security.
