MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Marcus Simms was not selected in Wednesday’s NFL supplemental draft, but the former West Virginia wide receiver will still get a chance to make it in the league.
Simms and the Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to an undrafted free agent contract, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissaro. Simms only needs to pass a physical on Thursday for the deal to become official.
Simms entered the supplemental draft after it became clear that he would not be academically eligible to play for the Mountaineers next season. He had 87 receptions for 1,457 yards and eight touchdowns in his three-year college career.
The only player taken in the supplemental draft was Washington State cornerback Jalen Thompson. The Arizona Cardinals used a fifth-round pick on Thompson. That pick will be docked from the Cardinals in the 2020 draft.
Simms will attempt to crack a Jacksonville receiving corps that has not produced a 1,000-yard receiver since 2015. The Jaguars signed former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Nick Foles in an attempt to jump-start a passing attack that struggled with consistency with Blake Bortles at the helm.
