Meritt C. Walls, 91, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019, at Mon Health Medical Center.
He was born in Dellslow on April 21, 1928, a son of the late Frank and Edna P. Martin Walls.
He served in the Korean War from 1950-52. After discharge from the service, Meritt learned pattern making and was a machinist by trade his entire career. Meritt was very well known for his inventive mechanical ability and was an accomplished woodworker.
After retiring, he served many years for the Mon County Sheriff Department Reserve Unit. He was also a school bus driver for Mon County Schools for 12 years. At the time of his passing, he was on the Board of Directors at Deckers Creek Public Service District and was a member of the American Legion Post 174. He was Methodist by faith.
He is survived by his wife, Jewell Galford, of Morgantown; stepson, Ed (Winnie) Galford, of Snowshoe; stepdaughter, Debbie Galford LaBrozzi, of Bradford, Pa.; three stepgrandchildren, Justin (Katie) LaBrozzi, Brandon (Cara) LaBrozzi and Ryan (Paige) LaBrozzi; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Jackson, Collins, Lilliana and Mason LaBrozzi.
In addition to his parents, Meritt was preceded in death by a brother, Frances Walls; sister, Marietta Stemple; and son-in-law, Rich LaBrozzi.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, until the 1 p.m. service with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home, Omega Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sargeant Todd May Foundation Memorial Fund, Attention Tammy White, 116 Walnut St., Morgantown, WV 26505.
