Robert William Lenhart

Robert William Lenhart, 94, of Morgantown, died June 21, 2019.

Bob was a lifetime resident of Morgantown and the oldest child of the late William Roy and Frances Williams Lenhart.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty Steinbaugh Lenhart; his sister, Mary and her husband, Merle Core.

He is survived by three children, Steve Lenhart and wife, Debby, of Troy, Ohio, Diane Lenhart, of Morgantown, Susanne Beeman and husband, Alvin, of Oakland, Md.; two grandchildren, Brian Lenhart and wife, Michele, of Kenosha, Wis., and Karrie Helton and husband, Pastor David Helton, of Oakland, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Claire Faith, Aiden Tate and Sophia Joy Helton; and his sister, Ruth DeWitt and husband, Earl, of Seattle.

Bob served in World War II as a light artillery gun crewman in Battery “A” of the Army’s 175th Field Artillery Battalion. His Custer Division liberated Italy on June 5, 1944. While in Rome, Pope Pius XII blessed Bob and two of his buddies. After the war, Bob married Betty and co-founded Modern Home Builders. He was a carpenter for over 45 years and a faithful member of Carpenters Local Union 604.

Bob loved to read, mostly about antique cars. In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed and spent many hours restoring antique cars. He also enjoyed telling stories of his World War II experiences to family and friends.

Bob will be laid to rest at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, following a military funeral honors ceremony.
