Monongalia County Commission approves employee raises

MORGANTOWN — Employees of the Monongalia County Commission will receive a pay increase starting in July.

As a part of Wednesday’s regular meeting, the commission approved raises of up to 3%, with a minimum increase of $1,500 for full-time employees and $1,000 for part-time employees.

“This increase actually helps both ends,” Commissioner Sean Sikora said. “It helps the higher end, because if you’re paid on a percentage you get more of an increase. It helps the lower end because if we just gave them 3%, they would get a lesser amount, so it’s a good compromise.”

Sikora went on to say that 217 county employees will receive raises in excess of 3%.

In order to avoid employees still inside a probationary period, the increases are for anyone hired prior to Jan. 1, 2109.

In other county news, the commission set a schedule regarding a proposed amendment to the West Run Planning District zoning map.

According to information provided by the county, the amendment is requesting changes for two parcels — Morgan District, Map 4D, Parcels 7 and 8 — from R-1 (low density residential) to R-4 (high density residential).

The commission will hold a first reading on the request during its July 9 meeting followed by a public hearing and second reading on July 24.
