Casey Smith’s pitching gem leads Morgantown Post 2 to 5-0 win over Garrett County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Post 2 baseball team was victorious in Wednesday evening’s matchup against Garrett County Post 71 — winning by a score of 5-0.

Casey Smith had all the right stuff on the mound, pitching all nine innings and allowing zero runs and five hits while also striking out eight batters. He also got the win.

Morgantown got its offense going in the first inning when Caleb Taylor hit a solo home run. Morgantown got the majority of its runs in the ninth inning, scoring three after singles by Colton Matthews and Clay Matholic, and a walk by Devon Neal. Morgantown’s offense finished the game with 10 hits. Matthews and Matholic each collected at least two hits.

Isaac Upole took the loss for Garrett County. He only lasted three innings, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out two.

Morgantown didn’t commit a single error in the contest.
