ELKINS, W.Va. — Morgantown Post 2 (5-1) dominated Piqua Post 184 (Ohio) for an 11-1 victory on Friday.
After weather postponed play Thursday night, a slew of Post 2 sluggers returned to the field for a big morning show.
Piqua took the early 1-0 lead with Howie Ludwig scoring on error. In response, Morgantown’s starting pitcher Colton Matthews claimed two back-to-back strikeouts to put his team at the plate. Post 2 picked up three runs during their time at bat, kicked off by Devon Neal’s two-run single line drive and capped by Cam Musgrave with a single of his own driving in Clay Maholic.
Post 2 continued their scoring tirade, putting up eight more runs and denying Piqua any momentum. Matthews allowed just one hit through the remaining four innings.
Neal (3-3) was big at the plate, accounting for three RBI. Maholic (1-4) and Musgrave (2-3) combined for four RBI, while Quintin Smith (3-4) and Casey Smith (1-1) each brought in one runner.
Matthews picked up the win for Morgantown, pitching all five innings. He struck out eight and gave up no walks or earned runs.
Jarrod Magoteaux took the loss for Piqua through 4.2 innings. He had 14 hits and all 11 earned runs against him. He struck out one batter.
