MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown senior Caleb Taylor put together a stellar season, helping the Mohigans build one of the best offensive attacks in the state. His performance earned him a spot on the Class AAA all-state second team as a utility player by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Taylor finished the season with a batting average of .470. He hit nine home runs and had 46 RBIs. He reached base in over half of his at-bats (.539) with a slugging percentage of .812.
Taylor also was an effective pitcher. He tossed two no-hitters and finished the season with a record of 8-1, recording one save and posting an ERA of 2.29 in 58 innings.
Taylor also earned the Johnny Bench Award, given to the top catcher in the state.
Morgantown’s Devon Neal and Quintin Smith earned a spot on the Class AAA honorable mention list.
St. Albans’ Jake Carr and Hedgesville’s Chase Delauter shared state player of the year honors.
