MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An anticipated West Virginia two-sport signee announced on social media Saturday that he will opt to sign a professional baseball contract.
Terence Doston, a West Virginia recruit in football and baseball, posted on Instagram that he has agreed to a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. The post was accompanied by a picture of Doston signing a contract while wearing a Brewers hat and T-shirt.
Milwaukee selected Doston in the 22nd round with the 673rd pick overall. Prior to the draft, the Tampa Bay Times reported that Doston would likely end up attending college unless a big-league team prepared a strong enough offer.
Doston is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound outfielder from Tampa, Fla., who signed to play receiver for the West Virginia football team.
A couple roster moves earlier in the week indicated that West Virginia had an idea it might be without Doston next fall.
On Tuesday, Florida State graduate transfer George Campbell announced that he was signing with the Mountaineers. Campbell had been a Penn State commit since February, then changed his mind a week before he was set to arrive on that campus. Campbell is a wide receiver.
Graduate defensive lineman Reuben Jones announced his transfer to West Virginia from Michigan Friday night. On the surface, Jones’ commitment was a surprise given that the Mountaineers had already reached their limit of 25 signees in the incoming class. Doston’s decision to play baseball professionally would open the door for Jones to get a scholarship since it brings West Virginia back under the limit.
