MORGANTOWN — According to multiple sources, representatives of Mylan Park and the WestRidge Business & Retail Park are awaiting final details ahead of a Wednesday afternoon visit from Governor Jim Justice.
The Dominion Post has reached out to Justice’s office for confirmation, but has yet to receive a response.
The visit is reportedly tied to a pair of announcements — one regarding roads to be given at Mylan Park and one regarding investment in the 1,000-plus acre WestRidge development.
While no talking points have been confirmed, there is some context given the location that may indicate the nature of the Mylan Park announcement.
Wednesday’s Monongalia County Commission budget includes the consideration of an agreement between the West Virginia Department of Transportation Division of Highways and the commission for road repairs.
During the commission’s April 24 meeting, it was noted the county hoped to continue a pilot program with the DOH that began in 2018 to address specific road concerns.
Last year, the commission put up $150,000 to leverage $800,000 from the state for work on the upper section of River Road.
This time around, the commission said it wanted the state and county to work together to tackle Chaplin Hill Road, which runs past Mylan Park.
The park is increasingly becoming a local destination as amenities like the recently opened track complex and soon-to-open aquatic center come online. Along with numerous other entities and sports and community facilities, the park also contains Mylan Park Elementary as well as the school district’s bus garage.
The commission is also currently building the multi-million dollar Monongalia County Extension Service and 4-H Center at the park.
A new four-lane road that will run through the WestRidge development to Mylan Park is still two to three years away according to the commission.
Mylan Park Foundation President Ron Justice said the park is prepared and awaiting final details.
Ryan Lynch, representing WestRidge, said additional information is expected from the governor’s office Monday evening.
Neither Lynch nor Commission President Tom Bloom would elaborate on the nature of the WestRidge announcement.
