Morgantown High sweep OVAC girls’ doubles championships

MOUNDSVILLE — Morgantown’s No. 2 doubles team of Mackenzie Sorton and Isabella Mascari won their fourth consecutive OVAC championship with an 8-1 victory against John Marshall’s Emily Wright and Randa Omear on Tuesday.
Doubles titles was a common theme for the Mohigans.
Emme McKnight and Catherine Wassick teamed up for the championship at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory, while Ashalia Aggarwal and Kathryne Regules won the No. 3 doubles title with an 8-0 victory.
All three doubles teams were the No. 1 seeds in their brackets.
University High’s No. 3 doubles team of Natalie Wonsettler and Clara Lehki advanced to the second round before being eliminated. Trinity High’s No. 1 doubles team of Sara Seitz and Regan Baker advanced to the second round before being eliminated.

Baseball: John Marshall 6, University 5

MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs scored all six runs in the second inning Tuesday and then held on as University attempted to chip away at the deficit, but came up short in a 6-5 loss.
Clay Maholic and Aaron Forbes each had two hits and Casey Smith added a double and scored two runs.
Evan Smith pitched well in relief for UHS. He went four innings, allowing three hits and no runs.

Boys’ lacrosse: Morgantown 11, Linsly 5

Ethan Host had three goals and teammate Nate Goldcamp added two goals and three assists to lead the Mohigans to an 11-5 victory against Linsly on Tuesday.
Mike Jones added a goal and two assists and Jack Prokopchuk scored twice for the Mohigans.
MHS goal keeper Hank Herald recorded 10 saves.
