MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Ava Anderson drove in two runs and Morgantown High scored all of its runs in the second inning Wednesday to hold off Wheeling Park, 3-1.
Brooke Pyles did the rest on the mound. The junior pitched a complete game and allowed six hits and one run. Pyles allowed no walks and struck out four.
MHS (13-3) will host Steubenville (Ohio) in a doubleheader on Friday.
Baseball: Battlefield (Va.) 5, University 0
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Behind three costly errors and four runs in the fifth inning, Battlefield (Haymarket, Va.) beat University High.
The Hawks were held to four hits, with Hunter Cottrell, Aaron Forbes, Kevin Smith and Jacob Spearen all recording singles.
Johnathan Thompson pitched five innings in the loss. He gave up five hits and five runs, but only one was earned. He walked four and struck out one. Spearen pitched the final inning and gave up just one hit and no runs.
Girls’ lacrosse: University 16, Spring Mills 5
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Sophie Armstrong scored four goals and Mallory Napolillo had three goals and three assists to lead the Hawks.
Olivia Quarrick also added three goals for UHS and goal keeper Morgan Wassick recorded 11 saves.
UHS (9-1) will host Berkeley County on April 24.
Girls’ lacrosse: Morgantown 9, Buckhannon-Upshur 4
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Molly Wiles and Rachel Dennis each scored three goals to lead the Mohigans.
Maddie Shaffer added two goals and an assist and goal keeper Sunny Adkins recorded 13 saves.
MHS (13-3) will travel to Wheeling Park at 6 p.m. on April 25.
