West Virginia baseball returns to top 25 rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After taking two of three games from Texas Tech over the weekend, West Virginia surfaced in the D1Baseball.com rankings for the first time this season.

The Mountaineers (22-13, 6-6 Big 12) were ranked No. 20 in Monday’s poll. They have won eight of their last 10 games.

No. 18 Baylor. No. 19 TCU and No. 22 Texas Tech are the other Big 12 teams ranked this week.

In this week’s Baseball America poll, West Virginia entered at No. 25. The USA Today coaches poll ranks the Mountaineers  24th.

More importantly, the Mountaineers stand 16th in the daily RPI, putting them in prime position for an NCAA at-large bid with four weekends of Big 12 series and then the conference tournament remaining.

A strong finish also would put West Virginia on good footing to host an NCAA regional in Morgantown.
