CHARLESTON — A man took his own life at the state complex earlier this week, according to the state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
“Capitol Police responded to the report of a self-inflicted shooting Sunday morning at the Veterans Memorial on the Capitol complex campus,” DMAPS Director of Communications Larry Messina said Tuesday. “The individual involved was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.”
The man was identified and his family contacted. He was 69. Messina said he’s not sure if the man was a veteran.
“I can’t comment on it but there’s speculation that he was a veteran given the circumstances of the incident. I don’t know,” Messina said.
