MORGANTOWN — Investigators from the Morgantown Fire Department believe the cause of a fire Tuesday evening at Parkside Lane was accidental.
At 7:24 p.m. Tuesday, the Morgantown Fire Department was dispatched to a working fire in the basement of a single-family home at 707 Parkside Lane.
Fire crews found heavy smoke and fire venting from the basement window of a storage room. The blaze was brought under control within several minutes. One of the home’s occupants discovered the fire in the basement, and then alerted two other family members who were upstairs.
There were no injuries reported, although one pet cat was unaccounted for.
The fire caused an estimated $85,000 in damages. Further investigation was temporarily suspended due to structural damage and a possible collapse hazard of the floor above the storage room.
