Morgantown baseball scores 3 runs in final inning to defeat John Marshall

GLEN DALE — Morgantown High edged out John Marshall, 4-3, in Monday’s game.

Trailing 3-1 going into the seventh inning, the Mohigans rallied and scored three runs and held on in the bottom half of the inning. Morgantown scored all of its runs in the final two innings.

Carter Patrick led the Mohigans offensively. He finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs. Quintin Smith also had two hits, including a double.

Gavin Cottle got the win for Morgantown (7-2). He pitched six innings and allowed just three runs on seven hits and didn’t have any walks. Caleb Taylor came in for relief in the last inning and got two strikeouts.

The Mohigans will play again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at University.
