Morgantown baseball team splits with Hedgesville in doubleheader

MORGANTOWN — Morgantown High watched the game slip away early.

The Mohigans allowed five runs in the first three innings, but Hedgesville added six insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Chase Delauter got the win for Hedgesville. He pitched six innings, allowing just three runs on eight hits and striking out 10. Colton Matthews rook the loss for Morgantown. He pitched four innings and allowed five runs on 11 hits.

The Mohigans got nine hits in the game, but struggled to get runs in. Quinton Smith hit a solo home run in the first inning.

MORGANTOWN — In an offensive-heavy game, Colton Matthews led Morgantown in just five innings of play.

Matthews finished the game with three hits with two home runs and six RBIs.

After trailing 4-2 after two innings, the Mohigans exploded in the third inning — scoring 12 runs.

Charlie picked up the win for Morgantown (6-2), allowing six runs in three innings before Ethan Smith came in relief. Kyle West had the loss for Hedgesville, allowing 10 runs on nine hits.

Morgantown collected 18 hits in the contest. Caleb Taylor, Preston Fox, Charles Kerzak, Gavin Cottle and Jamar Neal each collected at least two hits. Taylor hit a home run in the fifth inning.

The Mohigans will play again at 5 p.m. Monday at John Marshall.
