MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — University High picked up two postseason daily doubles Thursday, as the all-TRAC boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were announced.
The UHS boys’, which won its first-ever state championship this season, saw coach Joe Schmidle earn Coach of the Year, while junior guard Kaden Metheny was the league’s Player of the Year.
The UHS girls’ accomplished the same, as the Hawks finished as Class AAA runner-ups this season. David Price was named the Coach of the Year and junior guard Ashten Boggs was the Player of the Year.
On the boys’ first team, Metheny was joined by teammate KJ McClurg, as well as by Morgantown High’s Cam Selders, John Marshall’s Bryce Yoho, Parkersburg South’s Seth Fallon and Wheeling Park’s Alex Vargo and Keondre King.
Morgantown’s Garrett Haines and University’s Rodney Bucklew were named to the second team.
University High’s Mike Maumbe and Morgantown’s Nick Malone were named honorable mention.
Boggs was joined on the girls’ first team by senior teammate Zoe Murphy. Morgantown’s Sydni Clawges was also on the first team, along with Brooke’s Hope Bowman, John Marshall’s Shay Straughn, Parkersburg South’s Makenna Winans and Wheeling Park’s Shanley Woods.
University’s Mallory Napolillo was named to the second team.
Morgantown’s Kaitlyn Ammons and University’s Abbie Coen were named honorable mention.
