MORGANTOWN — West Virginia five-star recruit Oscar Tshiebwe finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday, at the McDonald’s All-American game.
Tshiebwe’s West team fell to the East, 115-100, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, but the 6-foot-8 Tshiebwe left his mark. His 10 rebounds led the West.
Tshiebwe became just the second WVU recruit to be named a McDonald’s All-American, following Chris Brooks, who played in the 1987 game in Philadelphia.
Tshiebwe led Kennedy Catholic (Hermitage, Pa.) to the Class 6A Pennsylvania state championship this season. He scored 16 points and added 21 rebounds and three blocked shots in the championship game. He was also named Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania.
He will join a West Virginia recruiting class that also includes Ohio point guard Miles McBride, who helped lead Moeller to its second straight Ohio Division I state championship this season. He averaged 14 points and 4.1 assists per game.
